Weekend stuff...

Well, this weekend Joe and I signed the letter officially accepting Lauren as our daughter! I'm overnighting that, along with some other paperwork, back to our agency tomorrow morning. The next step is our travel conference call on Monday the 17th. We should find out lots of details about our trip at that point. All I really know at this point is that we are traveling with 8 or 9 other families including our friends Stephe and Karen.

Joe and I went on a little shopping spree for cold weather clothes in Lauren's size. We think that while we're in China she will be about 32" tall and weigh about 20lbs. We bought everything in 12-18 month size. Check out the shirt and matching pants with the panda face on the back. How cute is that!

I ended up clearing some things out of Lauren's closet...all the items smaller than 12 months. Luckily, it didn't put that big a dent in her clothes selection...I've had LOTS of fun shopping over the past three years! I still have lots of 12/18 month clothes in the closet, but we didn't have any cold weather stuff yet.

We are still on cloud 9 and I haven't quite come down to earth yet. I still can't believe we have a daughter and are traveling to China in 2 months!!! It was so much more fun to shop for her today with the image of her sweet face in my head. With all the things we still need to do and the holidays, the time is going to fly by!

Hello,

Congrats to you and your darling daughter! She is beautiful!!!

I came across your blog via the Salsa twin's blog. She has posted referrals and when I noticed your daughter's last name Nan, I thought I just had to check out your blog. Why? Because I adopted a baby girl in April this year from Maoming and her last name was also Nan. She was in the same orphanage as Lauren and she was sitting on the same blue stool in her referral picture! She is 17 months old today and the light of my life.

I don't live in the US but I just think it is sooo cool that I got to see one of my daughter's "sisters" finding a family!!!

Good luck to you on your travel and meeting your daughter!!! It is the best experience in the world!!

Lena

PS. I don't have a blog of my own, so I have to post anonymously, but if you want to contact me my e-mail is lenbika@hotmail.com

You may clear them out, but certainly don't put them too far! Fabul-O will be 4 in January and she can still wear some 18/24 month stuff..love those lil' tiny tushies! At 13 months when we met her, she was wearing 9 mos stuff.

Just food for thought.

Can't wait to hear you're on your way!

Hey Donna!
I'm glad you had such fun shopping! Do yourself a favor, don't throw out the 12 month clothes! Emily is 20 months now and still fits in some of the 12 months stuff I have. The weight they gave me on her referral was like 3 or 4 lbs more than she actually was. Just think about it. You'd hate to throw out all that stuff and then wish you had it! You can always good will it when you get home, if she really is that big.

Isn't it fun?! I remember your shopping sprees before. They were legendary. :)

Now that you that you can actually visualize your daughter in the clothing that you're buying, I know you're having the time of your life!

Boy, thanksgiving sure will have a whole new meaning this year for you. How awesome is that?!

Enjoy,

Shell

BTW - You'll be traveling at a great time of year too. Summer months are sooooo hot there. It really will make for a more pleasant trip.

Girl save some of those clothes! At 19 months my daughter still wore 9 months clothes.

It is so much fun to shop for our kids. I love all your stuff, she is going to be a stunning fashionista!

Congrats!! Don't get rid of the smaller stuff just yet. My daughter was 15 months at gotcha and the 9 month stuff (some of it) was too big. Take some mix of everything to China with you if you can't use it maybe another family traveling can. She is beautiful!

Well, everyone is telling you that you may need the smaller clothes. They probably know more about children from China than I do. But, my experience is that some kids are bigger than the clothes sizes. You might want to take a jacket and an outfit in 18 to 24 months just in case. It is good to have jackets in a bigger size because you are putting them on over other clothes. I guess it all depends upon how much room you get in your luggage.

Everything is getting real. You know have a timeframe to see your little girl. Take everyone's advice and take smaller clothes. I wouldn't go too big on the diapers also. I wouldn't take anything bigger than a size 3. My daughter never made it out of 3's. At 19 mos she is very used to the split pants. If you can I would talk to someone in China and see about putting her on the pottie. She is used to it. We put Mia on the pottie at 9mos and I can count the poopie diapers.

Good luck with getting ready.
